…Receives APC Membership Card
Godwin Edet, Personal Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on New Media, has called on the people of Uyo to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Umo Eno, assuring that the Governor’s policies reflect a genuine commitment to the welfare and progress of the community.
Edet made this appeal on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, during a formal ceremony at Uyo Urban Ward 1, where he officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), receiving his membership card and signaling his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. The event also marked the induction of several prominent defectors from both within and outside the ward, underscoring a growing political realignment in Akwa Ibom following Governor Eno’s earlier switch to the APC.
“Since his inauguration, Governor Umo Eno has shown earnest dedication to the people,” Edet stated. “Uyo is central to the Arise Agenda and is already benefiting from key appointments and development initiatives.”
He highlighted significant appointments of Uyo indigenes in key government positions, including Otuekong Prince Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State Government and political leader; Dr. Uwemedimo E. Udo, ALGON Chairman; Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka, Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority; Dr. Anieti Udofia, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Sir Charles Udoh, Delivery Advisor to the Governor and MD of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, among others.

Edet emphasized, “Given these positive shifts, it is imperative for us to unite behind the Arise Agenda and support Governor Umo Eno’s leadership. The recent defections reflect a strengthened and more vibrant APC, poised for greater achievements.”
Ward Chairman Mr. Emmanuel Asikpo welcomed new members, stressing loyalty, unity, and a shared vision as crucial to the party’s success. He affirmed that the grassroots APC would emulate the Governor’s people-centered governance model to foster trust, advance development, and secure victory in the 2027 elections.
Otuekong Iniobong E. John, Political Leader of Uyo Urban Ward 1, lauded Governor Eno’s defection as a strategic move that revitalized the APC’s standing in the state. He urged new members to maintain peace and avoid internal conflicts, reflecting the Governor’s leadership style characterized by calmness and inclusivity.
“If the PDP had 20,000 votes and APC had 10,000 in the last election, we now have the opportunity to deliver 30,000 votes and more,” Mr. John explained. “Pastor Umo Eno embodies peace, and as loyalists, we must protect what we are building.”
Among those officially welcomed into the APC were former PDP youth leaders and officials including Comrade Victor Nyong, Elder Bassey Udofia, Elder Edet Etim, Apostle Joel Ibanga, Sir Ifiok Asian, Hon Samuel Essien, Comr. Idongesit Essien, Comr. Edidiong Jimmy, Comr. Aniedi Jerome, and others, marking a significant boost to the party in Uyo.
The ceremony highlighted a renewed spirit of unity and optimism as APC consolidates its strength ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
