Abuja, 2 September 2025 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Tuesday that Nigeria reached its revenue target for the year 2025 as early as August, attributing this achievement to recent economic reforms aimed at invigorating the country’s non-oil sector.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa during a meeting with founding members of the former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation, led by ex-Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the President highlighted the significant contribution of the non-oil industries to national income.

“The economy is now stabilised,” President Tinubu declared. “Gone are the days when people traded pieces of paper for foreign exchange. The economy has become predictable; you no longer need personal connections to the Central Bank Governor, Yemi Cardoso, to access foreign exchange or import goods.”

He underlined the government’s focus on infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, food sovereignty, and national security as pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The President also announced plans to establish agricultural mechanisation centres across all regions to enhance capacity, boost crop production, and secure the nation’s food supply. “We will have trainees as part of this programme — it is our path to food sovereignty,” he explained.

Reflecting on his longstanding bond with the CPC, President Tinubu described their political alliance as “a sweet memory,” expressing gratitude for their steadfast support. He assured the group that the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari would be preserved and honoured through initiatives like the Buhari House. Additionally, he vowed to create more avenues within government for former CPC members. “Thank you for your patience. Our first priority is to cure the economy and bring hope to the people. Thank you for believing in me,” he said.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, commended President Tinubu for his statesmanship and inclusive leadership, particularly in his engagement with the people and government of Katsina State.

Former Governor Al-Makura, leading the delegation, pledged the CPC members’ full commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. He also praised President Tinubu’s role in the dignified and honourable state burial of President Buhari, noting the comfort his continued presence provided during the ceremonies.

“We assure you of our loyalty and support as we work towards the success of your administration and your victory in the 2027 elections,” Al-Makura affirmed.

President Tinubu remains confident that sustained economic reforms and political unity will secure a prosperous future for Nigeria.
