Open Letter to Akwa Ibom APC Members: Allow Ekperikpe Ekpo to Concentrate
Re: “Akwa Ibom APC Stalwarts Accuse Minister of Anti-Party Activities”
Dear Fellow Akwaibomites and Members of the APC,
I write as a concerned Akwaibomite and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to address the recent statement published on August 25, 2025, titled “Akwa Ibom APC Stalwarts Accuse Minister of Anti-Party Activities”.
The statement accuses our distinguished Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, of factionalising the APC in Akwa Ibom State, harbouring selfish interests, and jeopardising party unity in pursuit of a presumed 2031 governorship ambition. These grave allegations have the potential to sow discord among party members and distract from our collective goals.
It is essential to assert that the burden of proof squarely rests on those levelling such accusations. Until concrete evidence is presented, these claims remain hearsay and unsubstantiated rumours. Political ambition, especially looking as far ahead as 2031, is neither unusual nor inherently detrimental. Far from being a fault, early planning is a mark of a serious and committed party member.
Our true priority in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape and within APC remains the success of Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D., whose overwhelming support for re-election is evident. The party has not entered any campaign for 2027, let alone for 2031. Premature and baseless propaganda of this nature only serves as a needless distraction which threatens party cohesion and progress.
Moreover, Hon. Minister Ekpo should be allowed to focus on his ministerial responsibilities without external distractions aimed at undermining his commitment and contributions. Building a robust grassroots framework and maintaining peace within the party should be our mutual goal.
In the spirit of unity and progress, I appeal to all party members to desist from divisive rhetoric and instead work towards galvanising support for APC’s continued success in Akwa Ibom State, especially as we prepare for the 2027 elections.
Let us come together, showing maturity and dedication to the ideals of our great party and the welfare of our people.
Yours faithfully,
Destiny Young
A Concerned Akwaibomite and Founding APC Member
