Governor Umo Eno has formally reiterated the importance of respect and civility in public conduct, calling on the youth of Akwa Ibom State to uphold the enduring values that honour the state’s leadership.
This appeal followed a peaceful visit by members of the Akwa Ibom Youth Coalition to Government House, Uyo, on 21 October 2025. The group presented concerns relating to an issue involving a member of the Greater Akpabio Family, to which the President of the Senate and Chairman of the 10th National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, belongs. The letter was received by the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, acting on behalf of the Governor.
In an official statement issued thereafter, the government affirmed its respect for the rights of citizens to peaceful expression but underscored that matters of family remain private and beyond governmental jurisdiction. Governor Eno seized this occasion to caution the youth against any conduct or remarks that might tarnish the reputation of leaders or undermine their dignity in society.
“We must not destroy the leaders God has raised for us by besmirching their character or attacking their integrity,” Governor Eno emphasised. He urged a return to the path of civility and respect for authority, reminding the youth that Akwa Ibom’s culture of honouring leadership is a venerable tradition that should be maintained across all political divisions.
The Governor highlighted that peace remains Akwa Ibom’s greatest asset, fostering sustainable development, attracting visitors, and preserving the state’s widely recognised harmonious image. He warned that while the wounds inflicted by acrimonious exchanges may heal, the scars often endure, thus reinforcing the need for restraint and more constructive conflict resolution.
Governor Eno’s statement reflects his consistent perspective that leadership is a divine trust demanding both moral obligation and societal respect. He specifically noted that the office and person of the Senate President confer immense pride on Akwa Ibom and therefore merit the highest esteem.
Furthermore, the Governor urged the youth to channel their energies productively towards bridge-building rather than destruction, aspiring to be remembered as a generation that uplifts the community. This reaffirmation of values underscores his administration’s ARISE Agenda, which is firmly anchored in peace, moral leadership, and social cohesion.

Thank you our Governor for advising our youths to channel their energies productively rather turn a strictly family matter into a publicity stunt and, seeking relevance. I stand with you Your Excellency Sir!
It is for the Great Akpabio family and elders in the LGA to meet and call the woman to order.
