Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D., has congratulated Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, on his election as President of the 2026 Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

Ekpo secured the presidency during the Forum’s 27th Ministerial Meeting held recently in Doha, Qatar. Governor Eno expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Ekpo and providing support that led to this significant international leadership role. He also acknowledged Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), on his election as the Forum’s Secretary-General.

In a message conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno affirmed confidence that Minister Ekpo would continue to implement President Tinubu’s vision of harnessing Nigeria’s vast natural gas reserves to stimulate the nation’s economic growth and the transition to clean energy.

“The Government and people of Akwa Ibom State are deeply proud of this elevation. We will continue to support and collaborate with you to succeed, both at home and on the international stage,” the Governor stated.

Governor Eno also thanked the Senate President for the support shown to Minister Ekpo since his appointment to the Federal Executive Council.

This achievement underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in global energy diplomacy and highlights Akwa Ibom State’s vital role in the country’s energy sector.
