Akwa Ibom APC Upholds 27 Member Ward and Chapter Structure, Agrees Limited Infusion of Seven New Members for Harmony

Uyo, Akwa Ibom — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has issued a strong rebuttal against claims by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, that the PDP would win the 2027 governorship election in the state.

In a press statement released on 29 July 2025, Barrister Otoabasi E. Udo, the APC State Publicity Secretary, described the PDP’s hope of electoral victory as “vain” and “daydreaming,” questioning the party’s relevance and capacity to secure any future electoral successes in Akwa Ibom.

“The present position and reality in the state and indeed the entire nation as regards PDP’s efficacy to win any election(s) in future is daydreaming,” the statement read. Barrister Udo highlighted the ongoing “membership haemorrhage” affecting the PDP nationally, emphasising key defections from the party to the APC, including prominent politicians such as Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, who recently joined the APC after wide consultations.

The APC also pointed to the current political dominance in Akwa Ibom State, noting that “all Senators, all House of Representatives members, all but one House of Assembly members, and all but one local government council chairpersons” from the state are affiliated with the APC.

The statement suggested that visits by “minions and electoral inconsequential personalities” to the PDP Acting National Chairman were not aimed at strategising for electoral wins, but rather for planning “the final burial of the PDP in the state” and its “national burial.”

The APC’s press release stands as a clear indication of the heightened political contestation in Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 elections.
