Umo Eno Set for Grand Homecoming in Etinan Federal Constituency

The people of Etinan, Nsit Ibom and Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency are preparing for a grand reception on Saturday, 23 August 2025, as they welcome their son and governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD. The occasion marks the tenth instalment of the ARISE Town Square Meetings and also serves as a significant homecoming for the state’s chief executive.
First introduced last year, the Town Square Meetings were designed as direct engagements between the governor and citizens across Akwa Ibom’s ten federal constituencies. The series began in Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika, and has since traversed the state, drawing praise for its ability to bring government closer to the people.
Governor Eno, who assumed office on 29 May 2023, has now completed two years and two months in office. Observers note that his leadership has been marked by accessibility, innovation and policies aimed at strengthening the economy. Through the Town Square concept, he has listened to local concerns, received formalised “NEEDS” assessments from each constituency, and made commitments to incorporate them into future budget plans.
In addition to dialogue, the events have also been used to provide grants to small businesses, support entrepreneurs, and extend other forms of empowerment. Many see this as evidence of Governor Eno’s private-sector background shaping his public service approach, emphasising enterprise and sustainable growth.
The timing of the Grand Homecoming coincides with the government’s preparation of its 2026 budget. The administration has already inaugurated a budget implementation committee to ensure that constituency priorities will be reflected in what officials describe as “the people’s budget.”
Locals in Etinan Federal Constituency are expected to converge on the Ikot Edibon Local Government Council Secretariat in Nsit Ubium for the reception. Stakeholders, political office holders, community leaders, business figures, clergy and residents will be in attendance. The event is also seen as an opportunity to reaffirm political support for Governor Eno’s administration midway through his first term.
Over the past two years, the constituency has benefitted from state-level projects in healthcare, education, road construction, rural electrification, water provision and housing under the Compassionate Homes initiative. Supporters say these achievements have laid strong foundations for sustained progress.
With the ARISE Agenda remaining the government’s policy blueprint, expectations are high that the 2026 fiscal year will consolidate on gains made so far. Recent quarterly budget performance appraisals have also shown steady growth indicators across key sectors.
As the governor returns to his constituency for the Grand Homecoming, organisers predict a carnival-like atmosphere. Beyond the celebration, the event is being positioned as another milestone in Umo Eno’s bid to redefine governance in Akwa Ibom as both people-centred and economically resilient.
