Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on young people across the state to embrace self-improvement and active participation in peacebuilding as part of efforts to sustain the state’s growing stability and development.

Speaking during a breakfast meeting with the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State chapter, the Governor said his administration remains committed to creating an environment where youths can contribute meaningfully to governance and community progress.

Governor Eno explained that the establishment of the Ministry of Youth Development was a strategic move to streamline programmes that directly address youth aspirations. He cited initiatives such as the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre and the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre as key components of the state’s plan for skills development and economic empowerment.

He urged young people to take advantage of ongoing government programmes, saying that productivity and peace among the youth population would help secure the state’s future. On political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections, the Governor advised youths to avoid being exploited by politicians and to maintain peace in their communities.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, described the youth body as a vital platform for nurturing leadership and commended the Governor for creating opportunities for young people through appointments and training. He encouraged them to remain law-abiding and focused on growth.

Member of the House of Representatives for the Oron Federal Constituency, Hon. Martins Esin, also applauded Governor Eno’s policies on youth empowerment, noting that the planned youth development centres across the 31 local government areas would further enhance opportunities for young people.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr Ekerette Ekanem, expressed appreciation to the Governor for prioritising youth advancement and for his consistent support in promoting capacity building.

Leaders of the Youth Council, including the State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ekong, and other representatives from various local government areas, commended the administration’s commitment to youth welfare and pledged continued collaboration with the state government to achieve shared goals.
