A major political shakeup has just hit Akwa Ibom State. Honourable Ekerette Ekpenyong, former chairman of Uyo Local Government and currently the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Urban Development, has led all members of Ward 4 in Uyo Local Government Area—formerly with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as of yesterday.

Described by many as a “political earthquake,” hundreds of committed PDP loyalists have taken the bold step of joining the APC. In an emotionally charged ceremony, Honourable Gabriel Edem Udo, the energetic Uyo APC Chapter Chairman, welcomed the new members, describing their move as a true homecoming for those returning to their political roots.

This wave of defections is more than just a matter of numbers—it signals a deep and significant shift in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape. The growing appeal of the APC is evident, as the party gains momentum and support in areas historically dominated by the PDP.

Analysts point to Governor Umo Eno’s deliberate alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s federal government as a key factor fueling these dramatic changes. This strategic alliance, orchestrated by the Governor and other influential PDP figures, has reinvigorated the APC in the state, boosting morale and sparking a renewed sense of unity and purpose among party faithful.

With these developments, the message is unmistakable: the old political order is being challenged. The APC in Akwa Ibom State is asserting itself with renewed confidence, drawing support from people eager for genuine progress, national integration, and forward-thinking leadership. The tide is turning, and Akwa Ibom’s political future is more dynamic than ever.
